A Zealot and a Roman Collaborator

How excited do you think they were to find out they were going to be together in the same small group, traveling with one another and spending much time in close quarters? What went through their minds when Jesus announced: “Simon, zealot on this end of the political spectrum, I want you to come follow me. Matthew, tax collector, collaborator with Rome, hated by the zealots, I want you to become a part of my little community and follow me.”

We are now “Spirit of Grace Lutheran Church”

Now that we’ve changed the name on the website and made it “Facebook official,” I guess it’s really here: our new name!  We voted yesterday to adopt the name Spirit of Grace Lutheran Church.

The Story of a Name

After our Leadership Team shared three possible names, it was clear that we didn’t have a consensus around any of them.  We gathered a few weeks ago for a Forum on naming the congregation.  Out of that conversation, it was clear that even though there were a lot of good name ideas, we wanted to be known as people of “grace.”
